Robert A. McGovern, 77, of Louisiana Avenue, Warwick, died peacefully at home on February 1, 2010. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Arthur J. McGovern and Florence (Allen) McGovern. He was the loving husband of Eleanor C. (Votta) McGovern for 51 years. Mr. McGovern was an Civil Service Employee at Davisville Seabee Base until his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish of Warwick. Besides his wife, he leaves his four children, Robert A. McGovern, Jr. of Charlestown, RI, Karen A. McGovern of Chevy Chase, MD, Terrie A. Gibbons of Warwick, John A. McGovern of Cranston, and a sister, Judith L. Burgess of Maynard, MA. He was the loving grandfather of seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. His funeral will be held on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 7:45 am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwood, Warwick (Exit 12A off I-95) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 597 Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick. Interment will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
