Adelaide T. Jones, or Grammy, as we knew her, passed away Thursday, November 12 th , 2009 at the West View Health Care Center in W. Warwick, RI. She suffered a stroke while recovering from hip surgery. Adelaide was the daughter of Joseph Graves True and Hazel Lenore Ballard (True) of Maine; born in W. Simsbury, CT but lived most of her life in Maine, until moving to Warwick, RI to live with her daughter's family in 1988. She was 92, born June 10, 1917.
She attended a one room school house in Vassalboro, Maine; later, Cony High School in Augusta; graduated from the Gates School of Business, and worked for 40 years for the State of Maine as executive secretary for the ME Employment Security Commission. After retirement, she worked for Atty Donald Bourassa in Augusta.
As a young girl, she lived on dairy farms with her family and loved all animals, especially horses. She moved to Warwick when her youngest granddaughter was born, helping with her daughter's home day care business and enjoyed seeing all three grandchildren grow up.
She leaves her daughter Mary and husband Gary Richardson, grandchildren Mark and Allison Boggs Richardson of Laurel, MD, Matthew and Kara Littlefield Richardson of Slocum, RI and Amanda Richardson of Warwick, and great grandchildren Tyler and Jake Richardson of MD.
The family wishes to thank the staff and patients of West View Health Care Center for their outstanding care, and making Grammy feel at home, during her time with them.
Funeral arrangements are private, at the family's request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Protectors of Animal Life Society (P.A.L.S.) 188 Case Road, Winthrop, ME 04364, Grammy's favorite charity. Arrangements by THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME.
