Raymond J. Hawkins, Sr., 77, of Newport, died peacefully on April 23, 2010 at Village House Nursing Home. He was the husband of Eleanor (Hoyt) Hawkins. Born in Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Lewin A. Hawkins and Anna M. (Hunt) Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins was a Welder for The Norwalk Company until his retirement. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. He leaves a son, Raymond J. Hawkins, Jr. of Trumbull, CT, and a daughter, Donna Sheinberg of Tampa Bay, FL. He was the brother of Joseph J. Hawkins of Pawtucket, Edward J. Hawkins of AZ, James C. Terrien of South Attleboro, Anna K. Haynes of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Robert E. Terrien of Hollywood, FL, Cecile M. Riviere of Hollywood, FL, and Sr. Joan Hawkins SSJ of Warwick. He was the loving grandfather of four grandchildren. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 8:45 am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A off I-95) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 597 Jefferson Blvd. Burial will follow in The RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
