Francisco A. Carreiro, 74, of East Main Street, West Warwick passed
away peacefully Monday at Kent Hospital surrounded by his loving
family. He was the beloved husband of Zelia M. (Estrela) Carriero for
48 years. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, he was a son of the late
Francisco Laureano Carreiro and Inez Rebello (Andrade) Carreiro; he
emigrated to the United States in 1969.
Mr. Carreiro was a Machine Operator for Bradford Soap Works for 28
years until his retirement. He was previously employed with the
Fairmount Foundry in Cranston.
He enjoyed fishing and was a Commercial
Fisherman for 12 years in Sao Miguel, Azores. He served as a 2nd Class
Marine in the Portuguese N.T.G. Corvo and in 1957 served as a 1st Aid
in the Military in the Battalion Infantry #18. Mr. Carreiro was a
member of St. Anthony's Church in West Warwick, the Portuguese-American
Citizens Club and the Holy Ghost Society. He was a fan of the
Portuguese Soccer Team "Sporting”.
He was the loving father of Joseph F. Carreiro of West Warwick, Zelia
M. Ponte of Warwick, Domenic M. Carreiro of Warwick, Stella C. Nicolau
of West Warwick, Moises Carreiro of West Warwick and Anthony Carreiro
of Fall River, MA. Caring brother of Ines Mello, Gloria Raposa and
Manuel Carreiro, all of Toronto, Canada, Jose Carreiro of Sao Miguel,
Azores, Edmundo Carreiro of North Providence, Agostinho Carreiro of
Providence and the late Athlene Carreiro. Cherished grandfather of
fifteen.
His funeral will be held Friday at 9:00 am from THE PRATA-MURPHY
FUNERAL HOME, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick with a Mass of
Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Anthony's Church, Maple Avenue,
West Warwick. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, West Warwick.
