Elizabeth L. (Barber) Brown
June 16, 2010

Elizabeth L. (Barber) Brown, 84, of East Greenwich, died peacefully on June 16th at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. Born in Wickford, she was the proud daughter of the late Russell W. Barber and Fannie V. (Baker) Barber. She was the companion of the late Robert Petrie.

"Ebbie" was a 1946 graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a degree in Home Economics as well as a Rhode Island College graduate in Education. After retirement from the Warwick public school systems, she went on to home tutor and advocate for many children who could not attend school.

As a young adult, Mrs. Brown was active in the Junior League of Providence and the Republican Town Committee of East Greenwich campaigning tirelessly for local and national candidates. Mrs. Brown has been an active communicant of St. Luke's Episcopal Church of East Greenwich, serving on the altar guild and as an usher for over 60 years. She was a member of the Mayflower Society, a Daughter of the American Revolution, East Greenwich Garden Club, Pettaquamscutt Historical Society, and a 60 year member of her beloved Dunes Club of Narragansett.

Betty's continued source of pride and joy was always her family. As a descendent of Benjamin Fowler of Wickford, Betty spoke often and with great reverence of her family's Wickford roots. Betty's continued delight and pleasure was her son and daughter and her beautiful grandchildren. She leaves her two children, Christopher W. "Kit" Brown and his wife Maureen of Glocester, RI, and Joslin Barber Leasca and her husband Thomas of Matunuck. She was the loving grandmother of Amy Rebecca Leasca, Stacey Katherine Barber Leasca, Christopher W. Brown, Jr., and Russell H. Brown. She was the sister of the late Russell W. Barber, Jr.

Her Requiem Eucharist will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 11:00 am in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 99 Pierce Street, East Greenwich, RI 02818.
