Elsie F. (Bercaw) Benson, 90, of Saunderstown, died peacefully on May 9, 2010 at Rhode Island Hospital. Born in New York City, NY, she was a daughter of the late Bertram L. Bercaw and Antoinette (Barnhart) Bercaw. She was the wife of the late Carl F. Benson. Mrs. Bercaw was a secretary for various businesses, including North Kingstown High School and the Graduate School of Oceanography at The University of Rhode Island. As a senior citizen, she was a graduate of Rhode Island Community College and The University of Rhode Island. She was a singer in Sweet Adelines Barber Shop Choral Group, a member of VASA, and the Seed Starters for the Rhode Island Wild Plant Society. Elsie was a lover of people, animals, and music. Mrs. Benson leaves her son, Owen C. Benson of Saunderstown. She was the loving aunt of several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Elizabeth “Bessie” Lemmon, Walter Bercaw, Robert L. Bercaw, and Elizabeth Greco. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 2:00 pm in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to The North Kingstown-Exeter Animal Protection League, P.O.
