Luis Alves, 78, died Saturday at Kent Hospital. He was the beloved
husband of Maria E. (Gomes) Alves. Born in Porto, Portugal, he was a
son of the late Vitorino and Maria (Nazareth) Alves; he lived in
Portugal before emigrating to The United States in 1978.
Mr. Alves was employed in the Maintenance Department of The Holiday
Inn at the Crossings, now the Crowne Plaza Hotel, until his retirement.
He was a member of the Cranston Portuguese Club and the Cranston
Portuguese Rod & Gun Club. Mr. Alves was instrumental in bringing
Portuguese television to the United States.
He was the loving father of Abilio L. Alves and his wife Margirita of
Cranston, Carlos Alves and his wife Maria de Corle of West Kingston and
Nuno Alves of Providence. Caring brother of Abilio Nazareth Alves of
Portugal. Devoted grandfather of Marcia, Catia, Lonzo, Mia, Eduardo
and Nisha. Cherished great grandfather of Devyn, Alexa and Ayden.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00 am from THE PRATA-MURPHY
FUNERAL HOME, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick with a Mass of
Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Anthony's Church, Maple Avenue,
West Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday
5-8 pm. Burial will be private.
